Queen Victoria to Make Maiden Call at Port Everglades on January 16

On Wednesday, January 16, Cunard's newest luxury liner, Queen Victoria, will make her Maiden Call to Broward County's Port Everglades.   Queen Victoria will join the world's most famous ocean liner, Queen Elizabeth 2, for a Royal Rendezvous, as they sail out together on their World Cruises.

"Port Everglades is certainly a seaport fit for royalty," says Broward County Mayor Lois Wexler.  "The Queen Elizabeth 2 has called at Port Everglades since 1971 and the Queen Mary 2 made her North American debut at the Port in 2004.  Now we extend a royal welcome to Queen Victoria."

Residents can view the historic Royal Rendezvous from the south end of Fort Lauderdale Beach, the 17th Street Causeway and John U. Lloyd Beach State Park during daylight hours.  The ships are scheduled to arrive at approximately 5:30 a.m. and depart at 5 p.m.

The 90,000-ton Queen Victoria offers the very best of Cunard's heritage and traditions, along with many exciting innovations.  These include the first traditional West End-style private viewing boxes at sea in the Royal Court Theatre;  the first floating Cunardia museum display housing Cunard artifacts and memorabilia; and the first two-story 'spiral staircase' library at sea.  The ship will also feature the line's celebrated luxury Grills accommodations and dining, further enhanced on Queen Victoria with exclusive deck terraces and an al fresco dining option.

Port Everglades is the cruise ship capital of the world with more than 3 million passengers sailing each year. The Port's ever-expanding fleet of cruise ships provides guests with an array of cruise vacation choices from the sunny Greater Fort Lauderdale area including everything from sampler-size day cruises to around-the-world cruises. Details on the latest cruise offerings are available on the Internet at www.broward.org/port.
